The Wireless Association announced the winners for the 2013 Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards, at CTIA 2013. Hosted by CNBC Technology Correspondent Jon Fortt, the eighth annual awards ceremony, held on the show floor at the Las Vegas Sands Expo & Convention Center, honored the industry’s most innovative new wireless products and services in mobile apps, consumer electronics, enterprise & vertical markets and network technology.
In addition to the winners of the 15 categories spanning the wireless and mobility ecosystem, Verizon Messages from Verizon Wireless was named “Best of Show.” The best online winner was VMware for its Horizon Workspace 1.0. Show attendees had the opportunity to vote online and via text for the nearly 100 E-Tech submissions that were on display.
“This year’s awards highlight the awe-inspiring and significant impact the wireless industry has on every sector and on our daily lives. We’re pleased to showcase the vision and ingenuity from our industry at CTIA 2013, which is North America’s largest mobile marketplace,” said CTIA Vice President and Show Director Robert Mesirow. “Our transition to Super Mobility Week in September 2014 will provide innovators with an even greater platform to showcase their amazing products and services in time for the holiday buying season.”
E-Tech award submissions were judged on innovation, functionality, technological importance, implementation and overall “wow” factor. Online judging for the awards categories was conducted by a panel of highly-respected industry experts, reporters and analysts. Read the rest of this entry »
Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone is the first to achieve internationally recognized requirements for environmental design and socially responsible manufacturing. As the largest manufacturer of smartphones worldwide, Samsung is the first major brand to achieve the TCO Certified Smartphones product certification.
The new certification was recently launched by TCO Development, an independent organization with over twenty years experience of sustainability certifications for IT products. Criteria in TCO Certified Smartphones are developed from a life cycle perspective, including requirements for socially responsible manufacturing pratices, the reduction of hazardous material content and health/safety. Compliance with all criteria is verified by an independent, accredited third party.

The goal of TCO Certified Smartphones is to place higher sustainability demands on smartphones and make it easier for smartphone buyers to choose sustainably designed devices.

Belkin is the winner of four 2012 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for innovative product design, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The two Silver and two Bronze Awards put Belkin among the top corporate winners in 2012 along with Samsung, Coway and LG.

Nintendo revealed a massive lineup of first- and third-party video games for its upcoming Wii U home console, including new games in the Super Mario Bros., Pikmin, Wii Fit, Batman: Arkham City, Scribblenauts, Assassin’s Creed and Just Dancefranchises. The Wii U console launches this holiday season and introduces the Wii U GamePad, a controller with a 6.2-inch touch screen that redefines how people interact with their games, their entertainment and one another. Video game publishers from around the world, including Ubisoft, Warner Bros.
