The Future of TV is here. Samsung Electronics America announced that its highly anticipated 2012 TVs will begin shipping this month in the U.S., beginning with the LED 6-series and higher, as well as the Plasma 6-series and higher.
The new models represent Samsung’s fifth generation of Smart TV. While features vary by model, highlights of the products include:
- Improved picture quality with Micro Dimming Ultimate and Real Black Pro
- Dual-core CPU for quick app launching and task-switching
- Integrated camera and noise-canceling microphone
- Smart Evolution – to help your TV stay up-to-date with new features
- Voice and gesture control, as well as face recognition
- AllShare Play with seamless connectivity to other devices and to cloud storage
- New Smart Touch Remote and Smart Wireless Keyboard
- New roster of exclusive signature services

Panasonic announced pricing and availability for an expanded 2012 Blu-ray Disc player lineup featuring four new Full HD 3D models – the DMP-BBT01, DMP-BDT500, DMP-BDT320, DMP-BDT220, and two 2D Blu-ray Disc players – DMP-BD87 and the DMP-BD77. All four of the 3D models include Panasonic’s proprietary VIERA Connect IPTV platform, while the 2D models feature IP VOD1, a service that offers a targeted selection of sites including Netflix, Vudu, CinemaNow and YouTube on TV.
Panasonic’s Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc players (BBT01, BDT500, BDT320 and BDT 220) include an improved UniPhier chip processor, 24p output for VOD, an expanded VIERA Connect functionality, and FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec),192Hz/32bit Audio DAC (not available on the DMP-BBT01), Smartphone remote control capability, a new touchpad remote control (available on DMP-BBT01, DMP-BDT500, DMP-BDT320), 2D-to-3D up-conversion2, which can convert 2D images from VIERA Connect1, DVDs and Blu-ray discs into 3D with natural depth perception, a new slim design and a unique slot-in drive that is found in two of the models (the DMP-BBT01 and DMP-BDT320).
The slot-in drive allows the user to insert a disc without the need for a tray and prevents inadvertently loading a second disc. In addition, the DMP-BBT01 introduces a new design concept and a greatly reduced form factor featuring a stand and enables operation either vertically or horizontally. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvell announced two smart energy management platforms for smart appliance and LED lighting applications, which give consumers the ability to conveniently manage their smart appliances and lighting solutions from anywhere in the world, minimizing wasteful energy consumption and furthering the seamlessly connected lifestyle.
Both the Smart Energy and Smart LED Lighting Platforms are designed to provide highly cost-effective, fully-integrated, end-to-end silicon and software solutions that enable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop feature-rich smart appliances and smart LED lighting solutions. The Smart Energy Platform provides rich Wi-Fi connectivity enabling smart appliances to seamlessly integrate into consumers’ home networks and devices, such as smart phones and tablets, as well as the broader Internet and cloud-based services. The Smart LED Lighting Platform is built around innovative LED driver ICs, along with low-power ZigBee networking, to provide a complete, wirelessly networked lighting control solution. A Wi-Fi/ZigBee gateway connects the lighting control networks to the premises networks, allowing control via smart phones and tablets.
